K3ULLB Project

Post by jjgravy »

Doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue but it is what it is. Never been a fan of Leslie 3 chimes but I’ve always liked an ex Erie Lacawanna SU3L-LRO that my friend, Chris Manning owns. Those aren’t exactly easy to come buy so I set out on building a Nathan copy cat with Bells 1L, 1, 3B. These play the same notes (some a few off) as a Leslie 25, 37, 44. I was just gonna use a standard 3H mani but I had the idea of using a UL manifold like the Ausi horns use. I had planned to just chop one side off but then Chris had the idea of using a standard L5 mani since 1L bell would be on the side just like the 25 on a Leslie universal low manifold does. Long story short, I ended up finding a busted L5 mani that I could fix just enough to use it for my needs. Got the closest grey I could to match my friends EL and the results are seen below! Definitely a fun build and was kinda cool to be the first to do so with an L mani that I know of. Let me know what you guys think!

Absolutely love it! I had thought about doing the exact same thing with the K5 low manifold to make a K version of a U manifold. Great minds think alike I guess.

By the way, the Leslie 3L chord is bells 25, 31, 44. The K #1 bell is same as a Leslie 31, not a 37.

I wouldn’t say I have a great mind but everyonce in a while I surprise myself. LOL. And thanks for the correction! Absolutely can’t stand the overwhelming majority of Leslies so I know very little about them😂. Thank you!
