O'Canada Whistle

Here's a few photos of the O'Canada whistle that was on the 1967 Canada Confederation train. It's composed of a 3L, 2L, 1L 1, 2 with separate solenoids for all the bells. The 3L and 2L are the earlier design, similar to the Hyson 3L, 2L, and 1L single piece bells. Note the front pedestal mounts, thi...

World's Largest Factory Whistle c.1940

Here's a photo of the Chemainus Sawmill sawmill whistle, now located in the Chemainus museum on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Also attached is an image from an old AirChime Air and Steam whistles catalog, showing a young Robert Swanson with his new invention. This three chime steam whistle wei...

KP5

Here's a small project I've been working on. Note it's just for looks, the notes are still all the same for a K5HL. I recently had a bunch of 3 inch risers cast for K horns, just to see how they turned out. A couple buddies of mine machined the raw castings down to usable parts. I cut one of them in...

Re: What type horn on this ALCO switcher??

The horn photo you posted is a pair of Airchime KSV-1 and KSV-2's. Those are the Hyson Airchime versions which feature an adjustable cap. The horn on the old Alco switcher appear to be a WABCO AC or AAC-1.

Re: AirChime KMJ234

What's the thing on the backcap at the top, some sort of adjustment? The little port on the top lets air flow from behind the diaphragm to a vent port directly below it. Similar to the holes in the back of a K backcap. I assume it was designed this way to let any water that was collected back there...

AirChime KMJ234

One of the latest additions to my collection is this rare KMJ234 marine horn. Basically a junior version of the mighty K-marine series ship horns, this KMJ-234 was designed for use on small work boats and tugboats. I haven't tested it yet, but it should sound similar to a 2L, 1L, 1 horn. Or exactly ...

Re: Kahlenberg D-2

I didn't realize Kahlenberg cast some of their brass bells, I always assumed they were spun brass. I am relying on memory here, but I think that in the modern era the size 3 horns are spun brass for anything but government orders (Coast Guard, etc). I have not seen a spun brass projector on any siz...

Three or Four chime Tyfon base

Looking for a three or four chime Tyfon base, used on early Leslie Chimetone horns like the A125-3E. I know it's a long shot, but I bought my last one on the old forum.
