Heh, what an unusual and interesting comparisom.
Hands down I prefer the standard S3K (and one is on my wishlist) but that said, the Nathan backcap mod isn't a complete disaster by any means, just very different.
The two together are the ultimate Halloween Train sound.

Re: Leslie 48 and 55 bell variations.
Thanks, very interesting: that square and no manufacturer stamp 55 bell is a weird one.

GE5HL vs K5HL comparison
(information from a video by Blake Kennis) MANIFOLDS manifolds.jpg ---------- Very similar except the tag, which on the GE5HL has a Part Number and Serial Number, with the title 'Five Tone Air Horn'. Both manifolds have the notch cut out for locating on the locomotive mount. ---------- BACKCAPS back...

K5LLA timeline
A quick question. Does the K5LLA follow the same timeline and "generations" as the K5HL, and did it first appear at the same time? It's not a horn I particularly like the sound of, at least not from what I've heard (change my mind) but at some point I probably ought to try and get one to make my sma...

Re: S5T Shortline Detective Required...
I'm guessing it very likely was a replacement, given the apparent problems with the Leslie S series in active daily use on dirty diesels.

I do believe you may have hit upon the very one!
What's more, at least one of their roster definitely came from L&N, pictured here. What horn is that...?

As of yet I don't know! The #1 bell needs some machining to the nozzle before it will be worth trying out

Re: Recent Tab Power Chamber Rebuild
Not being the owner of a tabbed back Leslie, could you explain what function the pop rivets perform, and why they were installed in the first place, presumably instead of a machine screw?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Oh, I never would have guessed that.
That would actually be a very interesting experiment to try, both these backcaps on a K horn and vice versa.

S5T Shortline Detective Required...
So I have acquired a nice old round-back S5TRF, which is apparently of L&N Railroad heritage. However: the locomotive it was on was bought by a shortline railroad after its career with the L&N was finished. That railroad painted the horn and it's a distinctive shade of green, as you can see on the p...
